Can you believe it is August already? Before you know it, we will be back in full swing for the 2019-2020 academic year. I wanted to let you know about a few things that were happening over the summer, and a few things to look forward to shortly.
The building has undergone some facility upgrades this summer. You will be pleasantly surprised when you walk down our brightly lit and newly tiled hallways, and you and your children will feel cool from the new air conditioning installed schoolwide. I wanted to be sure to communicate with you that as part of our continued maintenance and improvements to our schools, The parking lot between AES and GBS is undergoing some renovations as well as I write this. Stay tuned for information from the AES Parent Advisory Group who have taken time this summer to refine student drop-off procedures in order to make sure every student is safely dropped off before school. if you want to avoid the morning congestion, you might consider taking advantage of our school bus system.
Back by popular demand, we will have our assemblies in the mornings on alternate Fridays from 8:40 - 9:15 am . At these assemblies, grade levels will present as they have done in the past, and we will be honoring and recognizing students regularly for exemplifying our core values of respect, honesty, kindness, cooperation, and grit as well as recognizing students for academic growth and achievement. Be sure to check out the various ways we use to disseminate information for assembly dates and other important dates: the calendar in the foyer, the tv in the foyer, the website http://aes.convalsd.net, my monthly Eagle Express newsletters, and teacher newsletters.
Just like last year, we will be holding a school-wide MEET & GREET on August 27th from 3:30 - 4:30. This is a wonderful time for students to come in to meet their teachers, see the classrooms, and greet former and new friends. The event will conclude on the playground at 4:30 with popsicles provided by our active and dedicated PTO. Be sure to mark your calendar for this as well as our Open House which is scheduled for Thursday September 12th from 5:30 - 7.
I wish you all a happy August, and I look forward to seeing you soon.
All the best,
Stephanie Syre-Hager

This action was in large part a result of lead toxicity to children from the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
On February 8, 2018, Governor Sununu signed Senate Bill 247 Prevention of Childhood Lead Poisoning. This law requires, among other actions, that all schools and licensed childcare facilities test lead in drinking water at all locations where water could possibly be ingested by children.
The ConVal School District contracted with a State of New Hampshire approved water testing vendor to perform the testing in all of our schools. A total of 590 fixtures were tested according to DES protocols. Any location that was found to be outside of the acceptable levels has been labeled and clear signage has been affixed to indicate that this is not to be used for drinking water. It is important to note that the areas that have signs are not areas where students would typically drink water.
The first round of testing was required to be completed by July 1, 2019, and to be done every 5 years thereafter.
Listed below are the results of the sampling at your school that was completed in 2019.
In accordance with SB 247, the ConVal School District will perform the second round of water testing in 2024.
If you have any questions at all regarding testing, please feel free to contact me.
