On Thursday, October 17th the AES 4th graders visited Fort No. 4 in Charlestown, NH. They were transported back in time to the small frontier community on New Hampshire’s westernmost border. A blacksmith and a weaver demonstrated their trades to the students, and they also toured a colonial kitchen and trading post where they learned about food preparation, and also that coins would actually be cut in half by the shopkeeper when he need to give back change. The fierce wind and rain of the day helped the students appreciate the ruggedness that these people must have had to live there over 200 years ago.
