AES Students Visit Wood Manufacturing Class At The ConVal ATC

On Wednesday, AES students took a field trip to the Region 14 Applied Technology Center (ATC) to see what kind of classes they might be interested in taking as high school students in the future.

One stop on their tour was Mr. Ewing’s wood shop where students take a course in Manufacturing II. Students in this class explore manufacturing principles while learning how to use a variety of milling and calculated numeric control (CNC) machines.

Students saw how the CNC router was programmed and how it executed computer-given commands on a piece of wood that ultimately spelled out the slogan of the class: “Be curious, not judgmental.”

The field trip was organized as part of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month. CTE Month is a public awareness campaign that takes place each February to celebrate the value of career and technical education and the achievements and accomplishments of CTE programs across the country.
