[post_content] => After reading Officer Buckle & Gloria by Peggy Rathman, kindergarten students in Mr. Stultz' class wrote their own safety rules for AES, and they are currently creating a safety rules book of their own. The Kindergarten students presented their posters and safety rules to the A.E.S community during assembly.

The Fourth Grade at AES have been studying the state symbols of New Hampshire. Everybody made fold-out books about the state symbols.
First, we picked a random state symbol from a cup. We researched our assigned symbol using information from the internet. We read facts about our symbols. Some of the symbols are the state bird, state rock, state animal, and state motto. We each wrote one or two facts about our symbol, and also included when it was designated the state symbol.
Next, we illustrated our symbols. We needed to color our pictures so whoever is reading knows what each symbol looks like. We had to color 16 copies of our symbol, so everyone in the class could include it in their book.
Finally, everybody made books about our symbols. Jeannie Connolly helped us make a cool accordion book that folds out. There were lots of steps so we had to listen carefully and follow directions. We got to choose where we glued each symbol, and customize the cover and writing on our books. Each book is different! In the end, we took the books home to share at home. We got to create our own book and learn about our state.

[post_content] => Hazel is my 8 year old Cockapoo. She is a nationally certified therapy dog and a member of the Caring Paws Therapy Dogs group in Weare NH. We visit people in assisted living homes and hospitals, but our favorite visits are with children. I was really excited to introduce Hazel to the children I get to see everyday at A.E.S. Children are drawn to animals and will often have more confidence reading to a therapy dog than to an adult. It adds novelty and excitement to reading and provides great reading practice for children. The Family Fun Science Night at AES was well organized and a lot of fun! Many thanks to the A.E.S. PTO for inviting Hazel and I. I think the children enjoyed meeting and reading to Hazel almost as much as Hazel loved meeting them!By: Emily Hartnett

The Third Graders at AES have constructed a bird feeding station outside of their classroom windows. They have been working with the Harris Center learning about birds. The students will be observing and recording the birds they see this winter, and they will send their data to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in New York.

On November 15, 2017, Antrim Eagle Groups created children's book themed wreaths for display at the annual Antrim Festival of the Trees. You can see them all on display at the Antrim Library on November 25th from 10-4, and any time after that when the library is open through the holidays.

[post_content] => By: Carole StorroDid you know that AES has a secret garden? Last spring with the generous help of Jeremy and Amy DeLisle along with the Antrim 4H Club and the AES fourth graders, our garden was weeded and pruned - a gift that the fourth graders gave back to the school before moving on to GBS. There is still more work to do to revive our special garden into the place it was designed to be by AES educators. Micky Johnson, Sharon Otterson and Kathy Stacy, former educators at AES, had a vision for this outdoor space in the center of our school. They co-wrote a three year grant that included a quilting artist, a painted mural and a garden project. The stunning artworks are still on display in the entrance where AES and the Antrim Recreation Department share a space. With the dedication of the AES staff as well as many community members and businesses they created a lovely secret garden filled with flowers, trees, benches, artwork, painted rocks and a walking bridge. This has been a place for the school community to gather for lunch, drawing activities, science exploring, snack breaks, building fairy houses collaborative learning and enjoying a peaceful view from the classroom windows that face the garden. It has needed some TLC and with continued support from our wonderful PTO we are giving our garden what it needs to thrive. In addition to painting more colorful rocks in our Eagle Groups last year, and planting some new bulbs, local artists, Lisa Hennessy and Arlene Soule, have been collaborating with me, Carole Storro, Muzart Educator at AES, to create a work of art to hang in our garden to give the garden color year round. Last week we began teaching all of the students at AES how to make a mosaic work of art with glass tiles. The image will be of an eagle in flight and will consist of three panels. The students were so excited to work with the materials! After a demonstration by Lisa, they each set to work to carefully select colors and shapes to add to the work of art. Now that each student knows how to use the materials, they will have an opportunity to teach their families at our Literacy Night on December 6th. The eagle mosaic will be one of the many stations for families to visit and participate in along with an annual book fair to raise money for special projects and trips throughout the school year to extend our teaching & learning. Other events that the mosaic will be available to work on as a community will be Winterfest in February 2018 and our AES Annual Spring Festival in May 2018. We hope to have these panels completed to present to the school in June of 2018 as a way to give back to the school and teach the students about the impact of gifting a legacy to the place where they spend so many of their days as children. They will be able to come back as young adults and older to visit and see their collaborative work of art on exhibit for years to come.

[post_content] => Every March, all voters in the district are provided with the opportunity to vote on the budget for the following school year.
In addition, there are some items that frequently appear and require voter approval, including acceptance of the auditor reports, appropriation of funds for the various district trust funds, and School Board member salaries.
The ballots may also include some additional warrant articles that require voter approval. Warrant articles can be initiated either by the School Board or by voter petition.
Since the 2018 district ballots will include all of the above, the School Board will use this forum to provide all interested parties (voters, parents and students, teachers and district staff) with additional information.
